just wondering if anyone else here is dealing with drought? the national weather service said yesterday that we are officially in a drought.

seems like nothing new we"ve been in one for ten years. not severe for ten years, but each year since 97 we have finished the year about 10" or 1/5 behind on rain. they said the next time they average our rainfall to determine yearly average it will drop. for a time(98-02) it was severe. you could go into the woods and count dead trees. getting bad again. 2 weeks no rain temps near 90. no rain forecast for next ten days. and we are supposed to be in one of the wetter parts of the country. we did get 6" in one weekend 3 week ago. but that is gone. wish us rain.

Well, it's raining outside right now. Not oggna complain either.

I plan to cut hay on Monday, but they have a chance of rain on Tues/Wed. I'll probably still cut it and rake it Thurs, plan to bale Fri/Sat.

Every place is different but that wouldn't be a real drought if you had 6" 3 weeks ago here. Would be almost a wet year and half of normal annual rainfall. We haven't had close to 6" for this year yet so maybe we are in a drought too but don't know it? Stuff is green but that can change fast too. Last year at this time everything here was still brown till late June or July before some finally greened up.

WOW! 10 days and no rain, I grew up in Northern Cal and we went from mid may till late sept with no rain and that was the norm.
Here in Oregon we go several months in the summer without rain.
I guess its just what you are used to.

north half of alabama in extreme drought conditions. we are about 20 inches behind on rain this year. ponds are already dropping. hay crop is short. have not over 1/2" at one time here since late winter. "swampy" areas on the farm that should have standing water on them now are completely dry.

I have to say my farm is in a drought, all that rain that came through MN this last week was either south, north, or east of me. Did one one day of light rain, wasnt even enought to get the driveway wet enough to blade, been watering the sweetcorn and yards for a week already, to keep it alive, weeds are all dying, my oaks are dropping leaves, birch trees have died- shallow roots? Pounding posts really sucks right now. Dont the make a steel post pounder that uses a 2 cycle motor that works like an air hammer??

Daniel, I'm from middle Ga. and we haven't had any rain in 4 weeks now. That rain you had recently missed us by 15 miles on either side. We have had drought before but it is usually in the summer and not in the spring. We have only had 2 inches since early March.
