Hi Gang;
Prices have been creeping up here too.
Gasoline = $7.27 US Gallon
Diesel = $7.35 US Gallon
Prices vary slightly a few cents in different areas.
Farmers get red colour (rebated) diesel for farm use only a bit cheaper, will find out price.
Worst price is cigarettes = $10.60 pack of 20

Dont you just "love" government taxation !!!

David

Just out of curiosity, what price range does British beer cover? Draft, premium, bottled, cans etc?

Aren't tax discussions fun? Wisconsin gas tax 44+ cents a gallon stat and federal road use excise tax, no sales tax added. Note that Michigan poster said they had 6% sales tax added so gov gets more $ the higher retail price. Ran into that in Indiana 70s, court ruled sales tax could be applied to retail price including per gallon excise tax. Canadian poster noted 17.5% VAT added to fuel - money goes to provincal general revenue, then some road taxes added. England had about 1/2 the fuel tax going to other than road repair, transport? Was comment that old age pension and national health plan got a fair chunk of that so British government couldn't give tax break on fuel because people would be starving, dieing- bit dramatic talk by politician there, could have transfered politicians salary to make up difference (don't wait for that from Labor). Amish some times comment about fuel cost, kerosene for lamps goes up, horse feed a bit higher but the horse can trim the ditches, government services are not needed for many supposedly vital things- provide it yourself and tell gov they are not needed so don't come asking for more tax money. If that attitude spreads to others the gov workers would not have job security. Might be a good thing. RN

I hear they tax the livin' crap and pee out of gas over there, this adds a few dollars to the price. Will come to that here, I'm afeard. But the diff is that over there youse guys have alternatives to gas, decent public transportation and shorter distances, whereas over here in the wide open spaces, we are chained to the car and thus get royally screwed. Oil and car companies fought public transportation for so long, that it will be a very long time until we get a decent transport infrastructure built up over here so we have a viable alternative to personal cars.

As high as the state taxes are in the US, they are a lot higher in Europe. The diff there is that they have alternatives over there and we dont so we are chained to our cars and have to bend over and get our butts kicked every time OPEC sneezes or there is some cloudiness in the Gulf or some oil company CEO wants a new summer mansion. At least in Europe the government gets it and I'd rather have the government get it than some rich CEO or oil country dictator that hates our guts anyway. At least then we have a shot at getting some of it back, even if it is only in the form of a few fixed potholes.

You have gotta to be kidding me? You would rather have the goverment get the money then some rich oil CEO?. The reason gas over here is not $7 + per gallon is because the free market drives it and people make profit at it. You need a lesson in economics and the goverment don't deserve anymore than they are getting now.

How much do you complain about potholes? Or if the side of the road isn't mowed?

This is how that gets paid for.

The local station may only get .02 per gallon, but the oil company gets a lot more than that. And that station might be pumping a couple hundred thousand gallons per week. That would add up too. I will reserve political stuff for the ot board.

The oil companies make a higher rate of return by far than do most retail establishments, including Wal Mart.

The state would come in and tax your tabacco if they found out you were growing it. The goverment can never do with less you know but the working man must. Many states are now targeting poeple who are making their own biofuel from cooking oil. Seems the goverment is not getting the tax revenue from the fuel. When are the poeple in this country going to wake up and see the real enemy is ever growing goverment and not private companies.

I burn veggie oil in my diesel car now and again and my accountant adds it on to my tax return.
Fuel tax is ROAD tax. I still use the road, I should pay for it, thats only right.

Now I'm in the growing minority that says a portion of my road tax should be paying for better infrastructure for public transportation. Our rail system is falling apart while we plow money into airports to prop up failing airlines and more roads that we can't afford to drive on. Thats just silly.

I take the Acella express to NYC from Boston about every other month. Its fantastic and would be even better if Connecticut would pay its share and upgrade the tracks. In MA, RI and NY the train goes 100+mph (verified with my gps) in CT it goes 65mph...

Rather fight the war now overseas and pay later than to try to clean up from a nuclear or chemical attack that WILL come from terrorists if they are not kept busy and killed overseas! Remember 911! it was only intended as a test first strike and it worked they found out that the left is totally gutless and will not fight back! In fact the left fight for the terrorists right to kill us.
