In Bloomington there are some jobs but pay is not great compared to the high cost of housing, just depends on what line of work you are in. 3k per acre for land in this area is rough estimate. lots of hills so all land is not farmable.

RLH: where is your place in Linton?

Mike, let us know what you decide. I was raised in Southern Indiana...still go back several times a year. Have a lot of family and friends around Madison.
Taxes have gone thru the roof and the ethanol thing has really driven up farm land.
Good luck moving to a warmer place in Winter.

I don't know about prices but if I ever retire I would love to move to New Harmony or somewhere therabouts. I worked for GE for 17 years before I lost my mind and went to farming fulltime 5 yrs ago. I worked in the Mt. Vernon GE plant probably 16 to 18 weeks spread out over those 17 years and learned to love those hills and fields in that area. Very different from South Alabama.I try to make it back up there every 3 or 4 years in the fall just to pick apples and ride around.

I live about 10 miles east of Evansville. Residential land sells for around 10k an acre. Farm ground around 3-5k an acre. Lived here all my life. i think its a nice area. Been on the farm mostly, except for a prt time job for an excavating company. There is a fair bit of industry. Toyota, whirlpool, G.E. and many others. Lots of other mom and pop places to.

Depends on what you consider Northern KEntucky. That's a term reserved for the area just south of Cincinatti area. 75 miles west of there is actually one of the cheaper areas in the country for housing. (according to real estate agents anyway) Cheap is a relative term. (my relatives are cheap?) 52 acres of good farm land just up the road from me just sold for $900,000. And they call THAT cheap?

Great area to live in. Jobs are numerous if you have skills, or even if you don"t. Salary is commensurate with skills. Land prices are totally out of reason in northern Kentucky. Bring cash, lots of cash.
