Whats the consensus? Should I fill up the tank now or wait a bit? It sure seems a much bigger part of the cost of operation the last few years! Bob

A little food for thought.

Most years fuel is the cheapest at the end of winter. Or early spring.

I usually prepay my fuel then.

Only one year in the last 10 did I get burned by prepaying for my fuel needs for the spring and summer then.

I used to prepay also but after the fuel price runup a couple years ago the suppliers won't accept prepay. You have to take delivery of the full amount within four days. If you have on farm storage of over 1000 gal. secondary containment is required even if you have 600 on one end of the farm and 600 on the other including whats in your home fuel oil tank. If you have land that doesn't touch other land you own you can have 1000 gal on each. If the two touch anywhere it's 1000 gal total.

Agreed.

Especially right now. Gase prices are high and are expected to remain there, eventually diesel prices will edge up with them.
