I have a Framall Cub tractor Model-FCUB S/N-5634 that when the clutch is depress and the transmission is in gear thractor makes a loud high pitched grinding noise that seems to be comming from the clutch housing area. The tractor operates as normal when the clutch is released. Any suggestions on what the problem may be?

one more thing, actually the through out bearing is what I was thinking but the noise is so loud I didn't really think it could be it (really loud!)

Sounds like the throwout bearing....best to replace the clutch disk, pressore plate, throwout bearing and reface the flywheel while you are at it....

You need a new throw-out bearing.

It could also be the pilot bushing in the end of the crankshaft.

Actually, I don't think it is the throwout bearing unless the original cheap graphite bearing has been replaced with a ball bearing. I don't think the graphite bearing can "squeal", but what do I know.

Either way, replace it as soon as possible. The vibration is enough to cause metal fatique and breakage on the wimpy and long draveshaft.

Its not nessarily a cheap bearing, its just grafite as opposed to a roller type bearing. When serviced properly they can last for a good while. They are greasable and the grease just kinda seeps out of the grafite. If you have never greased it, then I have no doughts its wore out. The one in my 49 Cub is about 19 years old, and although it hasnt seen any serious work in about 4 years its still working fine.In fact the clutch facings went before the bearing did.Dealer has the roller type replacement for the grafite type.
