I would like to replace the manifold on my IH 2444 but it is very rusted and one bolt has rusted to the point where it is just a round nub. Any ideas before I tear into it and start cussing. Thanks.

When you put new studs or bolts back in, use a good high temp anti seize compound so the next guy won't be cussing so much.

ok this is what i had to do on my john deere b. i snapped off all the nuts.(not on purpouse) and then the manifold was so rusted to the head that i ended up hitting it with a hammer to break it into pieces. then trying to get the studs out i also snapped them flush with the head. i had my older brother take it to work with him and he heated up the head and got the remaining studs out. just remember if u break it into pieces you will have to clean out the inside of the head of any pieces of metal. just my tow cents. jonathan s

If the engine is still running and IF you can get a grip on the bolt with vice grips. Run the engine till good and hot then try to back the bolt out. If you can not get a grip use the grind off method. Good luck, PS I have tried the cussin method and it didnt work.

Grind the head off of the bolt - when the manifold comes off, then you'll have a stem to work with for getting the stud out of the head.

if the manifold is no good, could you break the casting away and expose the bolts where they meet the head and then heat them with a torch?

Do NOT heat the head with a torch!!! You will crack it for sure.

Grind the head off the bolt, remove the manifold and you will have a stud to work with. If a ViceGrip doesn't work, you can weld a nut on the end of it.
