My barn is over 30 years old. The galvanized roofing is rusty but sound. What do you guys suggest as the best way to go about handling this? Paint? If so, what type? What other types of treatments do you know of that are good?

Thanks.

Dave,

If memory serves me right, you are in upstate NY, as am I. Every two years a gentlemen by the name of Tommy Sherlock stops by the farm and offers to give me a quote on painting the roof of the barn. My in-laws used his services ~ 10 years ago and the roof is just now in need of a repeat application. Anyway, Tommy is from South Carolina, but works the upstate NY area in the summer. He can be reached at 803-279-2766.

Mark

Two suggestions;

1. Sherwin-Williams direct to metal enamel (was part number B 55). Prep and paint according to directions.

2. Check out roof coating companies. Around here, they can do it much cheaper, unless labor is totally free. They have sprayers and equipment that are so fast, it seems as if they are hardly started when they are done. I'd check with your local paint suppliers to find these guys, as well as what is the right product for your locale.

Best of luck,

Bill

Cen-peco makes some paint n finish they say will last something like 20 years(if I remember right). When I was on the airport commisssion we were checking in on it for the shop hangar roof.

I used aluminized roof coating and rolled it on. Just now needs to be done again after 12 years. I inherited the roof and it looked like what was already on it so I gave it a try. If you need a certain color I guess this wont work for you.
