I have three balers 1. NH 78 and 2 IHC 46s 1 twine 1 wire. I have been all week getting them ready for the season. Got the last parts for the pickup on the NH 78 and put it all back together got the Hydraulic bale tension unit working and set it at 250lb. (not a good idea) the first bale was so heavy I could hardly move it about. so reset tension to 100 lbs now the bale weighed 72 lbs that's a little better. I would like 75 to 80 from this baler.
I cleaned greased and got the IHC 46 twine baler ready to test and the right knotter wouldn't knot. so I took a look Yup the little piece that holds the twine to tie the knot didn't drop down a little oil sharpened the knife and she's tying them right and left. 35 lb bale though OOPs! forgot to tighten the bale tension down. Well you can't remember everything at my age.
Anyway it looks good I will work on the wire baler this week and hope for the best never worked on one of those just hauled many a bale from them as a kid.
Next thing is get the Massey Harris Mower-conditioner ready get the new blade put together an stored ready for when the one in it breaks.
Also look at the Old hay rake and see if it needs any attention.
Ain't this farming fun.
Walt

I just got back today from picking up a 214t baler. Looks to be in good condition but dusty. It's been repainted at some time, but I think I'll give it another quickie job and some decals. First of all it's going to get a good wash followed by a thorough lube. I need about a dozen pickup tines but just happened to have seven that were in a box of misc. parts from something else. Also has a few very small dings that should be easy to fix and then I'll hook it up to the Farmall M and feed it some old bales a see how she does.

Are you sure that ain't a 24t or 224t? I never really heard of a 214t.

They made 14t and 214t. The 24t and 224t were their replacements.

Hey Walt;
Can you post a photo of your IH 46 Baler? We had a B-46 baler in England in the mid-1960's, the only other baler that was better was the later B-47.
Would be interesting to see if you guys had the same baler.
I used one in 1966 behind an IH 434 tractor with 2 speed pto. Running at 740 pto at lower engine revs, it would out bale anything else. That auger feeding the bale chamber far out performed the other makes with sweeping tines. It was perfect with sisal twine but didnt like plastic twine until we got a modification. An independant trial at the time of all makes showed the B46 & B47 outperformed and had less missed knots than any other brand.
Cheers David
