Can anyone tell me if the International C153 in my 2444 has sleeves in it or not. I am getting conflicting reports. A mechanic said that it was hard to tell from the manual but he didn't think it was, but when I look to purchase a overhaul kit it states that the kit contains sleeves. Thanks in advance.

The C153 engine is a sleeveless engine. The pistons run directly in the block. I was able to get .010 over pistons when I rebuilt mine, but today you are probably only going to find .030 or .040 pistons. If it has been rebuilt before and the block is too far worn to bore and install pistons, you will either have to find another block or have a machine shop bore and sleeve your old block. If you have sleeves installed you can go back to standard pistons.

Oh,

I think it just about has to have sleeves, doesn't it?

Probably dry sleeved, I would guess.

I am new to tractors and this is my first. What does dry sleeve mean as opposed to any other kind? Is this kind more difficult to replace?
Thanks.

dry sleeve doesnt come in direct contact with the cooling jacket in the motor, the cylinder bore that the sleeve fits in is closed from the cooling system, a wet sleeve when installed the outer wall is in contact with the coolant. wet sleeve usually has an o ring at the bottom. wet sleeve usually is easier to get out, most times you can take the head off and roll the motor arond, the sleeve will come up. dry sleeve you usually need a puller to get em out.
