Need a hydraulic cylinder for my JD 870 loader...Deere wants $265 for a new one and to rebuild it will be about $200....the piston is pitted a bit and it seems that it'll need replacing. It's weeping a bit now but can hold a while. With the rebuild cost being what it is, it's better to just buy new.... Any source for cylinders that is less expensive?

Sure...mine is the type that the upper pin goes through the bore and the lower pin tube is welded to the piston. I don't know how you can make that work unless you use the whole piston which has pits in it...not bad but bad enough to cause the cylinder to weep. I shall post when I buy a new if you have any further interest and then I'll send some digitals and mesurements to you.

Baum Hydraulics (www.baumhydrauics.com), Surplus Center, and Northern Tool carry many cylinders, sometimes with odd dimensions. Baum also has parts to custom make cylinders (you make 'em they just sell the parts).

You need to know stroke, closed length, clevis or eye dimensions, and pressure. Any differences in hose threads can usually be taken care with short adapters also carried by these companies.
