I have a barrel of #30 oil that I have had for 4 years, and was wondering if the additives will settle out? It has been in a warm garage and is still sealed. Any problems with using it? Thanks.

I do a lot of testing work for the API on motor oils. All of our 5 , 55 gallon barrels of reference oil have been around since 1990.
We test for the additives and I have seen no change in the oils in 17 years.

Shouldn't be any problems at all. A 30 gallon drum of 15w-40 will last us about 2 years or more, and we've never had any problems with that kind of thing. Hydraulic will ussually last us a little longer than that too.
