AOL news showing pictures of what the town now looks like-not much. Grain elevator is about all that is left standing.

1206SWMO, If you or anyone else has the dimensions and other details of this big well, please post more about it. Is it lined with brick? If so was mortar used? When was it dug? Water production? Etc.?

I have a hand dug well on my old place its about5 ft.X 20 and is lined all the way down with loose brick. some of the brick has fallen in, in the last few years. I'm talking about how to repair it but I'm not to sure if it can be done.

Following is the link to the big well website. You can copy and paste it to the address bar. My Great-grandfather was on the crew who dug it. It has stairs to the bottom and I have been down a couple of times. I guess just to say I was there.

I have a least 3 I knew from college who lived in Greensburg. I just can't imagine how you rebuild after that.

Those poor people can't even go to their niighbor's house, or even the hospital for help. I wish them the best. I go by Greensburg when I travel on the harvest, though I have never been in the town, I know they are all genuinely good people who do not deserve this. The families who lost loved ones must feel completely overwhelmed. Jim

This picture tells the story.Theres absolutely nothing left! Your heart has to go out to these people.

I have been thru Greensburg many times and its hard to believe that its gone. The largest hand dug well is there and I've been down in it.

A co-workers BIL farms just to the northeast of town and his farm is probably gone. They were away when the storm hit.

where's your heart at?

The last thing we need at a time like this is someone to make a wise crack, regardless of your religion.

I would say a combination of miracles and a good warning system and people who know what to do when the sirens start sounding. When you grow up in Kansas you pay attention to the sky and sirens. May God by with them all.
