I received an e-mail announcing May 15th as a national gasoline boycott, wheras nobody buys gas that day. This I believe is ment to pressure the oil companies on prices. Does this make sense? Heck that would give them a day to count all the money they make on the 14th of May when everybody fills up. and also a day to prepare for all the gas sales on the 16th to those who didn't fill up on the 14th.
Wouldn't it make more sense to take the whole month of May and plan trips to town to go to several destinations in succession in one trip, stop at the store on the way home from work to get groceries instead of going home and changing and driving back to town, or the heck with the trip to the mall to hang out. Just in general don't drive unless it's nessasary, and plan trips out to maximize efficency and minimize fuel usage.
If all the people who were asked to participate in a one day boycott were to tweek their driving habits just a little for one month. I'm sure we would see some reasonably priced fuel the rest of the summer. Once that many people got used to the money and time they would save, I'm sure the energy industry would be irreversably changed.
Think about it.

I think cutting back is good but I think if everyone would boycotte one brand for a period of time would help solve the problem. The unions have done this for decades> They will pick one company to strike and usually results in getting some of what they ask for. Boycotting one company will get that company to take notice and lower the price. By one company I am referring to one company that produces the gas such as Chevron or BP, etc.

Some people just don't think things through very far.

Yes, I have always said that the easiest way to cut down on the fuel bill is to eliminate a few trips. I've always said that, but I've never done much about it.

It would be nice to hit the oil companie where it hurts. But that would require a increase in supply and a decrease in demand. They wont increase the supply. We as Americans with our lifestyle of having to -do it, get it, go there , NOW. Will continue to pay $3,$4, $5 a gallon for gas cause we as a noatiuon do not have the self control to reduce our gas usage. The younger generation will be worse than us, look at the example they are getting.

I think that the real way to lower the price is to reduce consumption. (tough but possible) Less trips to the store, go grocery shopping every other week instead--my wife is doing that now. Make sure the tires are inflated right. Car pool, which sucks. buy a more fuel efficient car/truck. It is too bad that all cars/trucks cant run on a 20% ethanol based fuel, to cut the fuel consumption.

A good way to get them, would be not to buy anything at a gas station/convenience store... They make very little off of gas, cigs, or beer.. The real profit is in soft drinks, chips, candy, etc...

NOTHING.I hate to say it,but our country is turning to crap. The politicans,Lawyers, and news media will take this country down!! sorry for the rant, all this over gas price's. Jim in N M
