Had better luck this week. Took the crazzy blakie back to the sale last wednesday. Took a little bit of a loss on her, but good riddance.

This week I went back to the sale and found another Red one almost the same size as the other one. After sniffing and head butting each other for5 a few minutes. They both settled down nice.

The darker one is from last week and the lighter one is the new one.

Two ways get the Fly ear tags or get Permectin an spray them down to keep the flies off. I like the permectin cost a lot but will last a long time.
Any Feed store will have both of them.

I seem to recal working alot with my grandfather on this with the Herfords. I remember him painting some greese on thier heads.

When they did have pink eye. I remember him putting some thing in thier eye then covering them up with a black patch that he glued on. Looked like a bunch of pirate cattle :-)

Nice looking calves. I always liked Herfords, but they seem to be highly prone to cancer eye when they get older. It seems as though I have to sell off my Herford cows because of this before their bags get bad, etc. Now I have been cross breeding them, and keeping the heifers with out the white faces, and have never had a case of cancer eye in those with colored faces.

M Nut,

Hang a fly bag where the calves will be walking and that will help stop the fly cancer.

I know the flies have something to do with it, but the vet told me it is more of a problem that their skin is light colored around their eyes and the sun (solar) light is what is causing most of my problems. Basically skin cancer of the eyelid. I think he is on to something, becasue I always treat pinkeye, but with some the eye itself is fine, it is the eyelid that gets a growth on it and it spreads quickly after that.
