My engine front mount hydraulic gear pump is rated at 26 GPM flow. I need a valve for my loader and any valve that will fit the space alotted is rated for 25 GPM max. What problems will occur in this situation?

I was looking into a similar type setup to add another valve on my Cat loader. 1 gal./minute more would not pose much of a problem at all unless you were running it full throttle and using the hydraulics continuously which would only cause a little more heat build up. 25 gal./minute seems to be the cut off point when you need a special higher flow valve that costs a lot more. Kind of not releated but maybe someone has ran into the same problem I'm having - I own a 825 Belarus with a 595 Allied Loader mounted on it.

The problem I'm having is that my loader lifts to about 1/3 height and stops consistantly at the same place. The hydralic fluid is full and it holds position well with some loader drop over time, The 3 point seems to be working fine.

Any ideas? Thanks,

Bob

Bob
does the engine labor when it is at that hight? it sounds like the oil isn't returning, or if they are one way cyl. they aren't vented one way meaning no down pressure.

Thanks Bill for the response - the motor doesn't seem to labor and the cylinders are 2 way, but now that you mention the flow I'm guessing that the flow has to go both ways - is there a way I could check this?

I have good lifting power initially, but very little downward pressure since this has occured. Maybe I have something plugged? Maybe I should drain the whole hydralic tank and see if something is plugging an inlet or outlet?

Any other thoughts??

Thanks

O. K. Also make sure you understand about the speed as was pointed out to you. Two other valves to consider would be a( well Parker owns both now)a Gresen Sp with float or a Gresen stck valve or a good Commercial valve. Have you done some math to determine your time for the cylinders to fully extend? J.

This valve is to replace the valve already on my Ford industrial tractor.

Unless your loader has 4" diameter cylinders you don't WANT that much flow. Mine is best with about 5 gpm otherwise it takes the touch of a safe cracker on the valve handles to not jerk the loader and tractor around.

On my tractor with a closed system, I put flow restrictors on the lines to the loader and to the back hoe (when its mounted on the 3 point) to cut the flow back to something I can control.

When I had the same loader (2.5" lift cylinders) on my smaller tractor with an external pump, I found a 5 GPM pump on that open center system was fine. The 22 gpm PTO pump was too much.

Probably none. All pumps are rated on theoretical displacement. Most people that I worked with used 85% as the factor for a gear pump. That would factor out at about 22-23 gallon. Now at what RPM is the pump rated at that flow and what RPM is the engine running? Just for fun and it has to be answered tonight as I am gone on business next week, what pump, what valve and what RPM is the pump running most of the time? Confused? J/

I am unsure of the pump manufacturer. It is a gear pump rated at 26 GPM at 2200 RPM. I am looking at the Prince RD500 series or Parker VDP12H. Most of the time the engine is running under 2000 RPM but I do go to 2200 RPM when mowing or road driving.
