MY GRANDDAD RECENTLY PASSED AWAY AND I HAVE BEEN PUT IN CHARGE OF SELLING HIS OLD FARM EQUIPMENT. I AM ABSOLUTELY CLUELESS ON THIS SUBJECT. I DO KNOW THAT WE HAVE A MASSEY 230 DIESEL WITH CORN PLANTER, DISC HARROW & BUSH HOG. WE ALSO HAVE A 1950 MASSEY PONY, THIS HAS A CULTIVATOR WITH FEET. BOTH ARE IN RUNNING CONDITION. IF ANYONE CAN BE OF HELP WITH APPROXIMATE VALUE OF THESE, PLEASE CONTACT ME.

Hi Emily, Where are these tractors located (General Area, not planning to come by for a look when no one's around) I live in the Eastern New Mexico and West Texas area with property (my fathers estate) in Central Texas. Would possibly be interested in these if not that far from me.

Jim

Thanks again.

Hello Emily, Thanks for the reply, I think that I will have to pass on these what I am sure are very good equipment. Due to the cost of fuel this would not be a good deal for me. Good Luck with your sales of the tractors and equipment. I am sure that there is someone that will give you a fair price and will be able to use them and get enjoyment from them. The Massy Ferguson's of that size and style are very good and reliable tractors that are very manageble. Take care, Jim.

See if you can keep some of the stuff, as chances are, you might want it someday for sentimental value or just some one in the family will want it. Now is the chance to get it on the cheaper side too. Once it is sold, you cant get it back easily.

230 was a good tractor with a few flaws. Power steering and front axle was the main ill. All MF utilities are worth good money. Some more sought after than others. 230 in average to good condition would bring $4000 to $5500 around here. Hours/condition/rubber determine price. 2-row planters are good sellers again. Guessing a model 39????? $350 to $1250 depending on options and condition. Disc? $300 to $750 average. Same range with bush hog. Pony w/implements average condition, anywhere from $1000 to $3000.

If nobody in the family is interested in the equipment, your best bet is an auction. If there is not enough to warrant an auction, then place the items in a consignment auction.

Depending on where you are, a good place to find an auction company might be Midwest Auctions. They have listings for many of the auction companies.

Think hard before you sell that Massey Harris Pony. It has probably been in the family for a long time, and is small enough to use as a riding mower on a large lot.

If you need any more help, drop me an e-mail.

Sorry to hear about your grandad.

You may want to consider selling on eBay; collectors of just about everything check the listings there regularly, and you're more likely to get a fair price for what you have. Just describe the condition as best you can (with lots of pictures), make sure that bidders know *they* are responsible for shipping, and don't take checks or third-person money orders or promissory notes or, well, you get the idea.

Another possibility: Have you or anybody else considered keeping some of this stuff? Doesn't somebody in the family want Grandad's tractor? I see quite a few posts on this site from folks who let heirlooms from the family farm slip away, and years later are trying to locate them again. Hard to put a price on sentimental value.

Just my 2¢ worth. Either way, good luck with the task ahead.

Thanks so much for the quick reply. I do a lot of buying and selling on ebay. I checked on ebay for similar tractors, but didn't find the models we have. I personally would like to keep the tractors although I really don't have a need for them. My family is large, Granddad didn't designate things too well in his will, so everything must be sold. Thanks again for your time.

I know Massey Pony's sell often on ebay. Just a thought for what it is worth.
