Anyone have any insight on replacing a 6v92 in a GMC Brig. to an 8V71.
The engine in the truck is shot. Will the 7speed trans work behind the 8v71?
Brian

I don't know about interchange but I wonder about the length difference. As I remember our Brigadier with 6V92 was pretty well stuffed in under the hood!

That's what I was really interested in. I can't find the physical dimensions of the engines listed anywhere.

Hi Uncle. You won"t gain much. Those letters and #"s mean: 6v92 6-cylinders, V-V style engine(not in-line), 92-Number of cubic inches per cylinder. your 6v92 has 552 cubic inches. An 8v71 has 568. But hey, if your 6v92 shot then do it, you have to do a swap regardless so go for it.

With the right injector combination both engines are in basically the same HP range at 2100 RPM so that shouldn"t be a problem. As long as the V71 has the right style governor for highway use and the flywheel housing you ought to be in business.
