Dont try it.I bought a burnt jd h.I used the trans mission gears, there was oil in the trans mission.Worked ok .The axles were bent and the front frame was bent from the heat.I gave the hitch to a friend but warned him to have it copied by a welder.

I have talked to a few tractor repairmen about this topic. All had done one or more.
All said they would never do one for them selves.
They said that the heat from the fires do strange things to the metal parts. Getting brittle ect.
My self I wouldn't do it.

A dude I know had a Jubilee burn up. He had a Deere dealer restore it, and it ended up costing $6,000 to restore it, to new tractor standard.

Ammonia burned tractors in reply to husky, 04-24-2007 18:44:51
Worst one I ever did was a 4020 that was rearended on an interstste (No he should not have been out there) Had a mounted anhydrous toolbar and two wheel tank. Hit by a semi. The ammonia tank was ruptured. The truck driver died. The hired tractor driver was thrown off in the sideditch, but was only slightly injured.Mostly ammonia burns as I recall.Probably happened 35-40 years ago. Anhydrous ammonia rusts everything it hits. I think the paint was even rusted.lol.

I've done several - and they all wound up being much more difficult than they looked. I bought a Deere last year that was in a "light" fire with very little visible damage - pretty much just from the hood up. What a mess. All the bolts stuck, I ended up rebuilding the engine, etc.

I was a service manager for a JD dealer where a burnt JD 4020 was refurbished. I think we never got all the leaks fixed. I would never want to attempt another one. I'd let the bone yard have it. They are very messy to work on also. Tx Jim

I did a G JD for my son a couple of years ago. Had the tires burned off and no paint left. I overhauled it. Found that where the fire was the hottest it burnt the gaskets. I would have changed all of them anyway when doing the overhaul. It turned out good. This one probably wasn't the hottest one I have seen though.

I rebuilt one that was burned. The sheet metal was not warped too badly. I had to replace all the tires, and most of the seals in the engine as well as rebuild the injector pump. Any thing that was not steel or iron did not survive.
It ended up costing as much as buing another tractor. It was also a lot of work to clean it up to paint.

Depending on the amount of fire damage, I would be very leery of "em. Father-in-law had one in a dairy barn full of hay burn down, to the ground. Tractor was a total loss. Heat was so great that metal was probably beyond salvage.
