I have a Massey Ferguson model F-40 and am wondering what type of engine oil I should be using, as well as hydrolic fluid. I hate to sound like a dummy, but the left rear rim is slipping and I can't seem to get it fastened tight enough. Can anyone help me out with these problems?

Everyones answers are good except the Power Shift wheel one.IF, I said IF you do have Power Shift Rims, than you should have a Stop Block on EACH side of one rail, look for the holes in one rail of each wheel.THEY have to be on there to keep the rim from moving. The blocks can be gotten from MF or about any Tractor dealer.

I think I've only seen one Massey-Harris/Ferguson F-40. It was a diesel. If yours has a diesel engine, you should be using motor oil that is rated for diesel service. If it is a gas engine, then the 10w-30 or 10w-40 that you use in your car will be just fine. I don't have a clue on the hydraulic oil.

I'm not familiar with your tractor, but I know that it was common for Massey to use a power adjust rim. There were cam locks on steel bars that were diagonally mounted to the rim. It is possible, if this is the system that you have that some of these cams need tightening. Any good engine oil, 10-30, 10-40, or 15-40 is fine. There are several brands of tractor hydraulic fluid, all very similar.

Any good 10w-30 oil should work fine. Also any good Hytran oil Such as Ford 304.
