Can used hydraulic hose be cut and have new ends crimped on if the hose is in good shape? I heard that the ends will blow off. Is it true? Thanks

Get yourself the reuseable hose ends, you can put them on yourself and all you need is a couple wrenches.
I think they're called no skive fittings.

Yes, losing an end is a stated reason as to why a shop won't put another end on a hose. I've had them warn me about it, and then do it anyway. Most will because if they don't, somebody else will. However, I've gotten to the point where I don't bother most times anyhow. If a hose breaks in one place, unless it was cut or something, I don't bother fixing it. The connectors to fix an old hose are often as much money, if not more money than simply replacing the hose. If it blew once already, it's going to do it again soon.... so I just change the hose and be done of it.

My experienc is about the sams as RodInNS. If the relativly new hose got damaged, and IF you can find a shop that handles that exact brand of fittings, then a repair MAY be cost effective. Mixing different brands of hose and fittings can be a disaster, as the thickness and size of the hose varys between brands and will not crimp correctly with a mix of bramds. If the hose sprung a leak with no apparent damage, then there is a very good chance it will soon spring another leak costing you the cost of the repair, downtime and wasted hyd oil.

We've had a few hoses repaired that way at the local Automotive Supply store. Never had a problem. We'd cut them right where they would get a small pinhole and make them into a shorter hose if it was long enough to have another use. Had to be in decent conditon otherwise though.

Yes it can be done but requires matching of hose dimensions to the fittings used (they are not all the same) Most shops will not do it due to the liability involved. I do my own.

There are variables, but it can be done successfully if..... ..

If the hose is not worn from abrasion, and if you are using the same brand fitting for that brand/style hose.

I've done quite a few successfully, but have had a few fail, and oh what a mess that can make sometimes.
