Got a lot of info on here about plow depth etc. All these years I've been doing it wrong I guess...plowing too deep. Maybe I'll get a better looking job if I plow only 8 - 9" deep. Now if the rain would only quit.....
Oh well I promised after the summer of 1988 I would never complain about the rain again and so far I've been doing pretty good on that. At least it is warming up a little but not going to get as warm as they were saying earlier in the week.
Ahhh spring!
Thanks all
Phil

nothing wrong with plowing deep but the ground then needs to lay for 2wks or more to cure good even would be better if it froze and thawed some. Just remember you should never work fresh plower ground plow early as possible just dont plow late and let hot sun and wind blow. Dad always said cant plow too early but after 15th APRIL be careful what you do.

From the other post, I needed to mention that the yellow clay brought to the surface makes clods no system of tillage can break. The hard pan could be subsoiled to allow better near surface drainage, and moving soil with a leveler might make some sense in some locations to put 10 inches of top soil over the clay. it might take 10 years for clay to mix with top soil, and it for sure makes it into tougher heavier less productive soil. Been there not good. JimN

Yeah I know, it was 46 this morning almost warm enough to sit on the porch with my coffee after the past week but it is only supposed to get up to 49 for a high and than be in the 30s and low 40s for the weekend...with rain. But I'm not complaining about the rain, honest.
Phil
