Hi Gang;
This is the start of the photos taken at the ploughing (plowing) match. A 1964-5 Fordson New Performance Super Major - the ultimate Major. 4cy diesel 53HP gross, 3F & 1R gears with hi & lo. Although the power was increased, Ford changed the crown wheel & gear ratios to give "better speeds for heavy work", they were not popular with farmers, the top gear speed was reduced. So Ford had to re-introduce the ratios from the blue & orange Supers as special order.
The hydraulics were improved and the front wheels changed from 3 spoke cast iron to pressed steel which meant everyone needed front wheel weights !
Many of these were exported and to-day command higher values due to scarcity.
The owner of this particular tractor is a Ford enthusiast and has just bought a Ford 6000 which was recently imported from the US (6000's were never sold over here)
Cheers David

These were good tractors! I hesitate to say this but it looks like the guy in the checked shirt is imitating that little John Deere guy we see in the windows of pickups here in the U.S.

David, keep those Major pictures coming. I think the Fordson Major is my favorite tractor. I spent many hours on one in my youth. (I spent a lot more time on on JD 5010, which is why I'm nearly deaf!)
