Any one got any specs on the number and size of blades needed on a Baker fan for measuring up to 75 HP or so? How about the one at Mt. Pleasant, IA? I know it is sized to handle the big steamers. If you get the blades about right wouldn't it then be a function of how many RPM you could turn it with different HP. I guess the deal there is that if the fan was too small a tractor with a lot of power would just hit the governor and not tell you anything ..... right?

mj, here is a pic of mine, note there is a small one on top, that smoked a clutch on a IH A.
The smaller pulley you see to the left of the pic a JD R or 830 can not turn it. The tire pulley will just work the heck out of them. Never checked RPM's, just used them to work them to seat rings and blow the soot/carbon out. I really think the blades are to big, was always going to cut the bottom 1/2 off of each, but never got it done.

Bob- That's pretty much what I've been thinking about for blade size but after what you said I can go a bit smaller; the little one would probably be too much even but would be a good starting point. The blades on the small fan look like ..... 12 x20 " maybe? My idea is to run it off the PTO with a driveshaft. The reason I want to check the RPM is to get the carb, timing, etc. set up before I go to a pull. We have so few pulling events here that it's hard to get lined out. It would also work well for breaking in new rings, etc. Anyway, thanks for the info; that gets me in the ballpark.
