It's suppose to get down to 18 degrees here in eastern Kansas the next two nights, wonder what it's going to do to the Brome Grass and wheat? Jim

The wheat is hurt but its too early to tell how much.It was 18 here last night and will be 16-20 tonite.

I've had feeeze damage on wheat 4 out of the last 7 years.Last year both a drought and freeze got it.

Several thousand acres of corn planted 3 weeks ago were lost in this area.Despite the record cold the corn planters were rolling today.

The wheat is fine. I have corn in the ground, planted 3-31, and not worried. You see we may have 3 inches of snow in Virginia but the ground is in the 50's 2 inches down. Corn is germinating--slowly--and the wheat loves the mositure. Nice slow mositure.

11 degrees this morning in Central NY. Guess they got over a foot of snow a little north of me yesterday. My snowbanks will never melt at this rate!

That sounds like farmer talk to the government man. It rained last week the crop has had it. Best crop in two years and the government covered it all with low cost loans and such.

I remember the year we had a drought in the Salinas Valley in Calif. Worst thing that ever happened they said on the news Government people all over the place handing out money. My neighbor who was foreman on one of the big farms said it was their best year had 7 instead of 5 crops that year.
hey all their water comes from wells deep in the ground under the valley floor.

Suppose to get to 24 and 20 here next 2 nights too and maybe 1-3" snow. Lots of trees and things are going to get frost bit. Our hackberry trees still look dead so that meant winter wasn't over yet. Even the so called experts won't be able to really tell you the damage on wheat as had a late cold spell years ago and all kinds of government employed experts came in inspecting saying we should finish grazing wheat out soon or just plow it all up it was done and would make less than 5 bushels if that. Some was hayed early but most of what was left for harvest was some of the best wheat in a while and we had some 55 bushel dryland.

Glen, I was wondering what your temps were. We start cutting in the Rocky OK area and then we move on up to south of Woodward. We were planning on finding a really good crop, but now..... ..... ..... . Jim

Jim, In W TX panhandle just NE of Clovis NM. Just icy drizzle and dusting of snow so far and only 29. At least they now aren't saying jump to 74 on Monday as that shock really would ruin things but suppose to gradually warm up again after Sunday. Then we can tell more what it did to wheat. I think the warm windy dry spell in February may have brought bugs out too early doing some damage? Wait and see.

They said on Farm Week tonight that the wheat in Mississippi is in trouble. It's heading out and temps are below 30.
