I have been shopping around for a 45-55 PTO hp utlility tractor. I have looked at NH, Massey, Case IH, and Deere. I find it hard to find a tractor that looks like a 2007. The issue is for example, NH and Case IH, TT & JX series have these strange "L" shaped rear axle trumpets, like drop boxes turned 90 deg. Also there is no covers around the shifters, 3pt, and SCV contols, it is all open like a 15 yaer old tractor. The Deeres are nice but over priced. I guess what my rant here is that if i buy a 2007 TT 60 compared to a 1988 3910, the only difference is price and more plastic. I looks like Compacts have almost filed that catagory. That is nice, but what about those of us who do not want a compact.

Brian,

I love my JD 5420. Yes, it was a bit pricey, but it does everything I need it to and always has extra to spare. The best news is I bought it 3 years ago and by looking at the prices on similar used units it is still valued at nearly what I paid for it (-5%). That kind of resale has value, because I am one bad year away from having to sell out.

If you want value for your $$ look at Zetor. They will not hold their resale, but they are a lot of tractor for the money. A dealer near me also sells McCormick and Deutz. Both look like decent tractors but no idea on price...

Not sure what features youre looking for, but the Farmtracs look like a decent tractor for the money. Neightbor has one and likes it. Also dont give up on the John Deere's. You can go from a basic 2wd 5xx3 to the 5x05's and the top of the line (many features and bells and whistles) 5x25.I have a 5105 mfwd (6 1/2 yrs old)and just bought a 5203 last fall, happy with both so far although I havent done much with the 5203 yet.Never thought I'd give up on Ford/NH but I cant warm up to those Fiat tractors. Put some time on an Oliver 1465 (Fiat) as a young man.The neighbors ended up owning it and it became difficult to get parts for by time they got rid of it .

Thanks for all of the great responses. I have also looked at Kubota and Farmtrac, if the Farmtrac 555/545TDC had a syncroshuttle there one on it"s way to my house, guess I will keep up the search for a good used Ford 3910 like i wanted anyways. thank you all again,
Brian

If I were in the market for a new tractor in that size, I would sure take a good, hard look at the Kubota. They seem to be selling like hotcakes, and that would not happen if there were any quality issues. Most of the Kubota dealers I am familiar with are also "old line" Case-IH or Ford/New Holland dealers that have been around for a long, long, time.

A friend just bought a new 2WD Deere 5XXX, (not sure on the model num), and says it will get stuck in a mudhole. pretty disgusted with it. It will pull like heck going downhill though he says...just a bare tractor no loader...

I maybe wrong but I would pay todays price if I could buy a new 3910 made like they were in the 1980's. Don't think the TT60 has much in common with the 3910 I have a 1986 Ford 4610 and I would hate to have to find a new tractor to replace it.

I was in Mexico a few months ago to attend an Ag trade show. New Holland still makes a 5610, 6610 and 7610,if I remember the model #'s correctly, they sell there. From a distance they resemble the old thousand series Ford made for almost 30 years, but up close there have been a lot of changes made, some probably not for the better.

Check out an M series Kubota. I have one that is 10 years old this year and have used it hard and it has never been back to the dealer, still even has the original battery. I have not had as good of luck with the newer deere's and NH's we've had.

I think the Farmtrac in that HP range are based on the old 4000 Ford. Mahindra is based on an old IH design. Both are built in India. Might be worth a look.

The neighbor tried out several before he bought. He said he had trouble seeing the loader bucket on the NH. Finally bought an Agco. He's had a few problems with all the electronic crapola on that. Cousin bought a 5525 Deere. That had a noise in the diflock. Says if you keep your toe under it,it doesn't grind. They told him it's made that way. Had a straight cut gear instead of helical. I don't know what a person is supposed to do. Buy a cheap old one,run it into the ground and then buy another one I guess. The new ones are making the old David Brown and Fiat built Olivers look good again.
