As others have said, four clamps per wheel will work just fine. I had a 970 with 18.4-34 rears, T-rail duals and four clamps per wheel. Pulled a 18 foot disc up to the spools--no problems.

The bare minumum is 4. It also depends on what size tire you have and the Horse Power behind them. Our Oliver 1855 has 18.4-38's, and the duals are supposed to have 6 clamps each. We run 4 and have no problems. 18.4-34's only need 4 and that's what we use on our Massey 285.

One general rule of thumb, I think, is take the number of clamps, bolts, or rails that hold the rear rims to the center disk, cast or steel doesn't matter, and divide by 2 and use an even number of clamps. If the rear tire is held on by 6 clamps like our 285, use 4 for the duals. 12 clamps, can't go wrong with 6 on the duals. For a bigger tire, even 8 wouldn't be too many.

Four spaced in a "+" manner.

After the band wedges and seats into the tractor rim, the clamps are almost a moot point.

Check 'em to make sure they are tight 2 or 3 times the first day.

That's the answer I'd go with. I only use 4 with 18.4x38 T-rails on my White 2-135. Never had a problem.
