I have a 1994 Ford F 150 with a 302 and automatic. When the engine gets warm it will bog down under acceleration for a few seconds (up to 20) before it will pick up and take off. Sometimes it backfires through the intake plenum while it is in this bogged down condition. Is this some type of EGR problem? The EGR valve was replaced but it did not help.

Check fuel pressure and replace filter. Also check IAC 9Idle Air Control valve. It affects acceleration and idle.

pull the codes, is the check engine light on? Check the vac hose to the map sensor, and check the voltage at the throttle pos sensor. If you need specifics repost Dave

Check fuel filter and fuel pressure if fuel pressure dose not increase on acceleration fuel reg. or fuel pump is bad.

Carburetor or fuel injection? If its a carb, agree that the accelerator pump is the first place to start. Take the air cleaner off, look down the carburetor bore, open & close the throttle a couple time, & see if its pumping gas into the carburetor throat (the jet will be above the throttle plate). Backfiring through the carb indicates its running extremely lean at that time. Does it do the same thing if you accelerate very gently?

Could be a bad accellerator pump on the carb.
