Where can one find a estimated value of some pre 1964 Winchester rifles? As in models 94 30-30 and model 61 22pump. I purchased a Shooter's Bible but all I found was MSRP. Thanks,Tx Jim

Just go to gunsamerica - dot - com and look at recent sales. That will give you some idea.

I collect pre-64 Model 70s. At present, in good shape, they can range from $700 to $6000 each - depending if pre-world war II, plain-grade or super grade, certain calibers, etc.

The other post that says only Model 70s are part of the "pre-64" thing is not entirely true.

In 1964, many mass-production techniques began to get used - e.g. machine bedding or barrels, pressed checkering, different actions (in the bolt actions), plainer/cheaper wood, etc.

The "pre-64s" are more of hand-crafted gun.
When it comes to older lever-actions - there are many things that make the value go up. I saw one sell a few years back for over $4000 - it had a short barrel and was a special "trapper's carbine."

With bolt actions, I love the Model 70s, but with a lever-actions - I like the older Marlins better - just a personal preference.

Real nice could be $900. Shooter $250. Most dealers will give you ab out 40% of what they can get for it.

I forgot to add history or provenance. If your '94 was carried by a famous Texas Ranger or outlaw price can go stratospheric.

You are so right. Friend is a gun collector. He owns Pancho Villa's old Winchester 94 and a shotgun once owned by Dwight Eisenhower. Makes them a LOT more valuable.

Value will depend on condition, originality and rarity. There are many '94's out there. If yours has original factory finish in excellent condition with rare features that are original Winchester factory installed such as, engraving, unusual caliber, extra long or short barrel, octagonal (if round was standard) or half round barrel, unusual length tubular magazine (full length mag under a half round barrel is unusual) and so on will fetch more than a run of the mill '94 that has seen a lot of decades of woods time.
Check the Cody museum. All the old Winchester records are there and you can check on numbers produced with what features. Collecting old Winchesters is interesting, you might consider keeping them.

Model 61 pumps bring a heafty price if in very good or better condition. I think this was the first rifle model chambered for .22 magnum.

Jim,

I think Gene is right on. After 64 the way they made them changed, more machined parts and less hand crafted. I think values of most if not all models are affected.

Go to gunbroker.com click on the forums icon and then go to ask the experts, they will have the info.

Rick

I think winchester was bought out and will no longer be making any more lever action rifles under their name. The blue book of gun values has all the prices in it and alot of dealers use it to sell guns. My pre 64 rifle is sure worth some money.

That's not true that the only ones that have any pre-64 value is the model 70. Model 94 does along with the model 100 & 88, could be others also.

Keith is correct. The guns you mentioned would not have a special value attached to them.

Jim, the only Winchesters that have any real signicant value based on the pre 1964 were the bolt action center fire Model 70 rifles, because in 1964 Winchester re-designed the boltaction reciever on the model 70...Couple years ago Winchester has started manufacturing the pre 1964 model 70 center fire rifles again.HTH

Keith
