Was researching windmills that produce electricity for home use, and was wandering if anybody had any experience with one or heard of a manufacturer. Any knowledge or thoughts about this would be appreciated.

Check out the Southwest Skystream. Inexpensive, compact, built in inverter. Gotta have wind.

Thse low maintenance units use PM generators and no slip rings. The 59" models spin fast enough that gear boxes, belts or chains are not required. The grid tie invertors work well. Now that utilities must allow "net metering". You will need several tubines to be worthwhile. Which wind zone are you in.

I went to a national convention for alternative power this year hoping to gather info on solar wind and passive solar construction. This was supposed to be the big deal and it was in Colorado. You should have seen the groups of dead beat, pot smoking skank that showed up as venders and participants. The Vendors had no clue as to how any of it really worked, so I would sugest dealing directly with a manufacturer. The industrie is loaded with nut jobs and those wanting to make a fast buck so beware.

Unless you live in an area that has a steady 10 knot wind most of the time its not cost effective. that 9 out of 10 days a year or more.
