Anybody tried fluid in the tires of their 8N? I"m having trouble with poor traction in wet conditions.

Have a couple of TO"s (about the same size) and have fluid in all 4 corners, local tire shop has no problem doing the front 6:50 x 16

My 44 2N, a few years older than an 8N, has had fluid in tires since new and still orignal rims, also hung 300#+ concrete weights on each rear wheel for years, did all the plowing and disking that way

I have run water in the tires of 424 IH, leyland, and ford 2600 for 20 years and it works great! Maybe up North you need to run a little antifreeze or different liquid to prevent freezing.

I would not own a tractor without having water in the tires.

Yep fluid works well in them and helps them a lot. Theres a number of types of fluid you can use and each has its good and bad points. CACL works well but if you get a leak in the tube it will eat the rim. Beet juice works well but can be hard to find. Anti freeze also works well but if it leaks can kill animals. My self I use windsheild wiper washer fluid. It doesn't eat the rims and is safe for animals also but its lighter then the other stuff but not by much

If that much. But you figure if you put just plain water in thats about 7-8 lbs per gallion so thats around 240lbs if you put in 30 gals. Wiper fluid should weigh about the same as water if not a little more

Get "Rim Guard". It's as heavy as calcium solution(11# per gallon). non corrosive, non toxic, made from beets. About any tractor without loaded tires and, or wheel weights are very handicapped and in some places dangerous. This is unless you pull light loads on level terrain, or mow with them. I've found this especially true with the "N" series Fords and the "Hundred" series Fords.

Terry, I ran 8n's when they were new , without fluid they were nearly useless. We also had one with dual wheels on it , almost made a tractor out of it .

Thats been an age old problem with tractors..Calcium has been the solution..Thats why there's such a brisk wheel/rim business ...Wheel rot from leaking tubes...
