I'm 56 and have finally reallized the bennefit of getting old. I now can do MORE than people expect. Up to age 50 you can never seem to do AS MUCH as people expect. Just sit back and think of all those years that you never measured up to everybody's expectations. Exhausting just thinking about it. Now you surpass all their expectations and it's easier too. Life is good!

I turned the magic age of 50 in 1986. Seems like yesterday. I can't give you any advice at all. Life for me did not get any more exciting after 50, but then my entire life has consisted of countless hours of boredom interrupted by moments of stark terror. That didn't change. Happy Birthday.

Congrats!!!!

Am now 55 with a 3 yr old son. (We kind of "re-defined" the term "shock and awe").

Nothing tests your "youth and vigor" like a toddler.

Wow, I didn't know I was hanging with such a bunch of old dudes! :)

The worst birthday for me was 25 - I woke up thinking that my life was 1/4 gone and had not done much (was having a hell of a time in dragging out grad school thought). None of my birthdays have bothered me much since. I guess I've been too busy.

TGIN, you have about 3 years and 2 months on me. The only thing that gets me these days is how darn fast the years go by, and whether I will ever get a barn / garage built in time to enjoy it for a couple decades.

Did that two years ago. It's all in your mind how you take it. For some reason turning 22 was the hardest. I wasn't a teenager anymore and knew I'd better get on with my life. When I turned 40 I felt great about it,I was heavily involved with a co-op and thought I'd be taken more seriously at that age. At 50 I thought I could REALLY BS people whether I knew anything or not.Great thing about getting older, you don't have to know ANYTHING,the young whipper snappers just think you do.

Gee Randy, you really are an old fart!!! Not as old as my brother tho. I keep telling him that he's closer to 60 than I am to 50, LOL!!! He's still afraid of mice 'cause one crawled up his leg when he was little one time while they were shelling corn - CHICKEN SH#T!!! OH Well, it's fun to watch him dance around some days in the crib, keeps him young!!!

One thing that I might add, don't worry about loosing your eyesite or hearing. At our age, you're too old to process anything that you might read or hear anyway, your body is too far gone to act on any of it,and if you did process any of it,it would only make you mad. Happy birthday.

TGIN;
The big one doesn't come till you are 65. You get lots of reminders before hand from medicare and all the insurance companies trying to sell you insurance.
50 only means you start getting invitations from AARP to join their group... Gene

I know what you mean, turning 50 didnt hurt, turning 60 didnt hurt. The one for some reason that really hurt was turning 40. And to really make a person think about something you can look at it this way. "You have more years behind you than you have ahead of you." So make the most of the years ahead. Happy birthday TGIN. 62 and holding here.

I have a friend that just turned 40 and is not taking it well, geez I blew right past that years ago. I stopped in at the local newsstand to get him a card. And spotted a magazine called 'over 40' (porno mag). The old gal at the stand wrote on the plain brown bag "get used to crusty old gals, pal" for me, and I left it on his truck seat. Haven't heard from him in almost a week. Hmmm....

Happy Birthday! I have got you by 7 years. 50 was a real bear for me. I am just now coming out of it though. When I used to hear about a guy going through the change, I didn't expect it to be what I have experienced. I thought it meant a cute girlfriend, a sports car, etc. Instead I got
anxiety problems.

Good Luck and keep active.

I have a twin sister. (I`m 23 minutes older). When we turned 50, she sent me a card and a note inside that said "well, I see we finally reached the half century mark". I`m lucky that I do not have any concept of age, or that might have made me feel old. That was 14 years ago and I am retired now for 2 years with no thoughts of being old. Spend as much time Out of that lounge chair as you can. Staying busy keeps you young.

50 is easy. Most pass quite a point at 56. Wish I was back there.

Three things you loose: 1st is memory. 2nd is legs, 3rd- I forgot.

The best part about getting old is that you've usually got most of the answers figured out. The worst part..... ..... ..... nobody ever asks you any questions.
