I have been looking a new tractor and this ts what I found. I am the second owner and it only has 5200 hours on it. I was looking at a 756 IH but the trans sounded really growly. So I decided on this DX 90. Oh yeah I did get a IH muffler though!!

Old friend is a long since retired Allis dealer who sold Deutz for a few years. He said they had two things going against them. One was that US farmers didn't like having to keep engine air cooling fins and related system clean, resulting in overheating, and that "sickly green color". Most of his old customers were accustomed to flashy orange, of course, but that is a weird shade of green and I'm not color blind.

Nice looking unit. I've seen and heard good and bad about them. One neighbor picks them up whenever he can at auctions when he is the only one there who knows anything about them and can get them cheap. Another neighbor bought a new 100-06 when they came out. It was a nightmare. In the shop more than it was out the first year. He was going down the road once not long after he got it,noises started,he took the oil fill cap off for the hyd oil and smoke poured out. Ended up breaking and stripping out the bolt holes that held the drawbar on. Had it chained on and tightened up with binders when he traded it in on a 7000 AC.

If one looks through one of the publications with Nationwide listings of used construction equipment for sale, much of the equipment has Deutz engines. Ditch Witch has used them, probably for the air-cooled feature.

My uncle has one. Put many trouble free hours on it. Did run warm when under load but never seemed to hurt it.

They can run hotter than other engines and get better economy, because no water.
