Got on the phone with my local State Farm agent today. I was trying to find out what I'll need to get an old Missouri truck insured for the drive home. The lady told me I should call the office my folks are insured with, that way I can get the discounts and they have me on record down at that office. I thought it was nice that she referred me to them. So, I called the other office, and told them my story, and talked to the agent about my special circumstances. We ended up talking about antique tractors and trucks and he really understands my situation. I guess those insurance folks aren't all that bad after all. Now, I just have to wrestle with the DMV to get an out-of-state, antique, heavy duty vehicle titled : ( Oh well, atleast things with the insurance man went well.

If you already have auto insurance it should cover a new vehicle for 30 daya. I have state farm here in calif, and that is how it is here. stan

The agents are always helpful. It's the claims dept after a claim has been filed that will give you fits. Everybody's nice when they are taking your money. It's when you are OWED some of their money that the problems start.

I bought a car in New Mexico while living in New York. Went to the New York Department of Motor Vehicles with the title documents signed by the previous owner (and notarized bill of sale) along with proof of insurance for the vehicle and they gave me permanent license plates right then and there.
Also bought a used car in Canada and the dealer got me temporary documents to get it home from Quebec. Registration was easy once we got importation stuff taken care of.
So there is more than one way to do it.

My experience of driving ebay vehicles home is you get a transport tag from the local DMV in the county of the purchase site and they give you a certain number of days to get it to it's final destination.

I imagine they will need insure info and purchase receipt to get the transport tag. Transport tag is like the slip of paper you hang in a vehicle window before you have the plate on the vehicle.
