I just bought my first acreage yesterday. Its 6 acres, One Brand New Wicks 60 x 110 machine shed, One Morton 40x60 Shed, its not new but nice, 30x200 chicken coop style shed, really nice split level house, house was built in 1970 and needs nothing, has new siding, windows, roof, finished basement, and the best part is a 25x25 finished bar area. Came complete with all appliances too. Paid $200,000 we feel like we got a heck of a deal considering what else is out there in the $200,000 range theres a lot of junk, we are really excited about it and will be married and moving in, in may. Just had to vent my excitement i guess!

Congratualtions, amigo. Enjoy your new life. And don't take that talk about "us and them" too seriously. You have as much right to be there as anyone.

Why do some "farmers" gripe about the "yuppies" buying up "their" land when it was, after all, a "farmer" that sold the land to the "yuppie" (not that you are a yuppie?

Hey, we are all Americans, all wanting pretty much the same thing - a better life. This stuff of some folks looking down their nose at the newcomers is getting old. Personally, I welcome you to the country. Good move.

I'm going to offer you congradulations, but I'm going to give you a little advice too. You didn't say if you are from the neighborhood or moving in as an outsider. If you are local, great, anybody reading this moving somewhere and you "ain't from around here",keep your mouth shut, your ears open and mind your own business for a good long time.I'm not trying to bring anybody down from the glory of achieving their dream, but some of us are just getting tired, quite frankly,of people coming to neighborhoods that our ancestors settled and having outsiders bringing their ways with them and trying to change things that affect our lives. It's just gotten to be such a cumulative effect, that it won't be much of a straw that breaks the camels back in some neighborhoods. Again, congratulations,I don't mean to bring anybody down.

Hey Kruggiemonster,
Congratulations on your upcoming marriage and your new homestead. Is everything around Albert Lea that reasonable or did you just get damn lucky? With all those recent hi-crop sales you ought to be well on your way to paying the place off. Well done!
Pete

That sounds like a deal. The guy across the field from me sold his 6 acres of low wet clay with a house and 2 small out buildings for $585,000.
You did well.

Congratulations. I still remember my first farm purchase and how excited I was. 45 acres in 1973. The best investment I ever made. Now don't keep us in suspense, where is it located?

No matter what you paid, if you can swing it, you will never regret it.

Congrats--our 12 acres has been a source of happiness for my wife and I for over 30 years----well most of the time at least. Gives you an excuse to own more tractors, machinery, tools, etc. than anything else you can do. I still farm mine with a whole bunch of old machines. People stop and stare when they see me out working in the fields. Good luck,
Paul

Congratulation on you buying my dream place. Wear are you located at? Are their more places for sale like that? Is their work there that pays more then $ 10 an hour for third shift? I my self have about had it with the not rural northeast any more. A place down the road just came up for sale similar to that for $ 500,000 After a corporate merger and sight closing all I have found for work in the last 6 months for skilled labor (Pharmecutical) is third shift $ 10 bucks an hour cant pay taxes and live on that here. Need to make some sort of changes. I could go back to farming if I am going to be broke living check to check at least then I would be doing something I like.

Youve made a good choice. Wheere are ya located? That chicken "coop" has a lot more potential for $$ than just storage, is it a 2 story? Are the feed tanks or any of the feed systewm/water lines in there yet. Congrats on yer upcoming marraige. You HAVE been throwing a penny in the jar each time right? $200,000 is darn cheap for that many buildings, shop, and a house. Round here that would get you..... well.... nothing with any acreage or extra buildings, but it would get you a 1/8th acre lot with a have finished interior, and an exterior that looked the same as everyother house on the block. Good descision.

hey congrats harlan! where is it located? with six acres it looks like you're gonna need about six old tractors...one per acre sounds about right, right guys? besides...ya got lots of shed space to fill...why not fill it with old tractors! oh ya...congrats on gettin married too...i think. by the way...buy your tractors before the "i do" part. (just a tip)

1 tractor per acre just doesnt sound like enough tractors for me! I have 12 hi crops now, but will be down to 2 once I sell them to help pay for the acreage, land and tractors seem to be going up in value at a steady pace so it will be a pretty even trade, not to mention the intrest we will be saving if we can pay off the place in a couple of years

It is located in south central minnesota, the land around it is gentle rolling hills, excellent views from wherever you look. Its 4 miles from the freeway off in the middle of nowhere at the end of a dead end road, its 20 miles from there to my parents place, and 19.1 miles from there to my fiances parents place. dont get much more fair than that. we are happy to get it
