My grandmother in the 50's and 60's farm had the Rock Island RR that went with in 300 yds of her house. Every fall the hobos would come to her porch for something to eat. She would scramble eggs fix toast and coffee and they would eat it in the yard. They stopped coming long before the rails were pulled up. Never could see the mark that indicated it was good for food on the tracks. Our house was 1/4 mile away and none came to it. She did not have a phone. Times have changed.

Times certanly have changed. Plus now they are using Gleaner combines(or were). Biggger machines and trucks and nicer campers. Some years back there was a film put out by MH that followed the harvest. Not sure how it ended but the combines were up in Canada harvesting(flax)?? And it had just started snowing.
