I was on ebay looking around and I thought the prices for the 4020's were low than I have seen in the past.

I've seen 2 on auctions in the past week. One with a turbo brought 8200 a week ago, then Friday I walked away when they were at 7200 on one. Neighbor said this morning he thought they got 8000 or 8100.

I bought a NICE looking, supposedly good running 40 year old "10" series a few years ago because I thought the price was right. I didn't have it very long before I found out how cheap the price of green paint really is. Certain parts are getting nearly impossible to find, as well as expensive, that you're initial investment is just a start if you plan to do more than sit around and admire it. I drove 4020's as a kid ... I loved them. Right now the greener they are the farther I stay away. There are some collectibles out there, no doubt. But I don't have a '36 Bentley in my shop either.

I think that the 4020 is just a great machine and would love to have one at a great price. The only problem is that I would have to paint it farmall red. Dave

4020 went up for auction last saturday a local Deere dealers annual auction. It was an early model PS, 2 remotes, diff lock, good original paint, engine was tight, good tires brought $6900. I kick myself as this was the first year I didn't have financing arranged before the auction. And go figure that they were giving tractors and equipment away.

You can have my '74 4430 for less than that. 20.8x38 insides like new, duals, 3 remotes, new cab interior, 1000 lb front weights, front fuel tank, new hyd charge pump and manifold. CAH, Power Shift. No livestock anymore -can sell the 4430 and the 3020 loader tractor.

Possibly one other thing that is affecting the used tractor market in the 80 to 100 horsepower class is the fact that there are so many new tractors available now in that same horsepower class, and they all come with more sophisticated hydraulics, a much nicer cab, shuttle shift tranmissions, front wheel assist, etc., and they also come with a warranty.

I went to the Dennis Polk auction last Saturday. 4020's there went in a range of $6500 to $8000. These were "off the farm" condition. There were some painted 20 series tractors that sold for more. A 4000 sold for $25,000. I don't think they made that many 4000's. However, this one may have had something else that made it special, I'm not sure.

It's kinda like the 2 cyl. market many years back everyone bought a fancy painted tractor for big money then found out how much money it cost to actually get it in WORKING condition.
