Iv'e been given a sales pitch from the guy I buy parts for my 800, & 8N. Giving me good(fair) trades for both my worn out Fords. Any body know anything about the Escorts co. that builds the engine?

LOL I just love all the replies you got. I like the ones about Farmtrac being made in China. LOL

Farmtrac spent a lot of money on a brand new plant in Tarboro nc. in 05. They back what they sell and aim to please.

I bought one in 04. It's an 80 and the model no. changed after the buyout was complete. It's the 675 now. 72 hp 4 cyl. Perkins engine. 12 speed Fwd. & Rev. with shuttle. Got just a little over 500 hours on it now. Very pleased with it.

Problems with it. Air in the hydraulic oil. Farmtrac sent parts to my dealer and his road mechanic came here and installed the upgrade. No charge and the tractor was 14 months old then.

Had a loader cylinder leaking a little. Mentioned it to my dealer and Farmtrac traded me two new ones for the set on my loader. These are a different style cylinder than what came on it. No charge but I changed the cylinders out. That was last Sept.

Like the other gentleman posted, I have a good dealer too. Bought a 2610 Long in 97 new. He replaced the lift pump at 200 hours and haven't had anymore problems with it. If I called him in the morning and asked him to bring out any tractor on the lot he'd be here before the sun went down. A good dealer makes buying easier. I know he'll back what he sells.

If you're looking for a new tractor try one out. Our area has lots of them in service. I've seen several being used in tobacco crops. Got some contract highway ditch cutters using Farmtrac in the next county. Also have several lawn service outfits using the Farmtrac compacts. If the Farmtrac's were junk he wouldn't be selling them as fast as he does. Words get around.

And as others have said you can rebuild the older Fords and have good tractors. But before Farmtracs are called junk those folks should try one out first. Then if it's junk call it junk. LOL Have a good one.

Do you love old tractors or not? These importsare a lot of the trouble in this country today. Do you endorse slave labor? Who do you think builds them? Twelve year olds chained to machines, thats who. Hope you can sleep at night.

Man, I gotta laugh at all the crap given about these tractors, and stick with the Fords.... blah blah blah. What does anybody think these tractors ARE? Escorts built tractors under Ford licence, in India, for probably close to 40 years. These ones, I believe, are based on the thousand series Fords (mostly the 3000 I think). They've probably been updated somewhat over the years....
Beyond that, I don't know much about them, or the quality of the build, etc.... but the original thousand series design was just about bulletproof, and certainly rock solid as one of the best tractors ever built. What they're doing today, I don't know.
Find some owners. Talk to them. Find out the actual problems and advantages rather than the supposed built in China crap I'm reading here.
I do suspect there are a fair number of changes from the old Ford design, but these may well be a solid little tractor for all that, and a good deal cheaper. At a bare minimum, a well spec'd 3000 is a hell of a lot more tractor than an 8N, and in functional terms, a good deal more than an 800, even if it has a bit less power.....

Escort builds the tractor, not just the engines. Compared to the name brands you lose a few features-live (not independent) PTO, low flow rate hydraulics, older design 3 point and steering linkage, etc. They are rugged tractors, though a mite crude when it comes to details.

Bob, if you purchase a similar size, similar HP Kubota, in 10 years you will still have a tractor and will have spent less total money on the tractor (purch + repairs + fuel). Let alone avoiding all the agravation, and less dependablilty of the Farm Trac. Squeeze a nickel now and you will spend a quarter later. Tom

Ask for a list of those who have bought the tractor. Talk with them. I know little about the Farmtrac machines. My Long from 1978 (bought new) is and has been a really good tractor. Made in Romania. Parts availability is still good from the organization that now sells the Farmtrac. And that is an informed opinion!

Farmtrac North America, LLC is a subsidiary of Escorts Limited – an Indian Engineering conglomerate involved in manufacturing of Tractors, Construction & Material Handling Equipment and Automotive Components. Escorts currently owns 75% of Farmtrac North America, LLC which it acquired in a series of equity investments starting 1999.

The company was originally incorporated in 1946 as Long Mfg. N.C. Inc. and has been in business in United States for nearly six decades. Farmtrac currently distributes its products through a network of 300 dealers spread in 32 states. Under a $10 million Business Process Re-engineering Project started in mid-2004, Farmtrac is in the process of upgrading and expanding its manufacturing facilities at Tarboro to triple its manufacturing capacity using Quick Response Manufacturing (QRM) as its core philosophy.

Other than John Deere, New Holland, AGCO and Kubota, Farmtrac is the only tractor company that has invested in manufacturing facilities in United States – making investments which are so very necessary to become a major player in United States.

Over the next twelve months, Farmtrac would be focusing on a substantial expansion of its distribution network not just in United States but also into Canada and Latin America. Over the next few years, Farmtrac has set a strategic target to evolve as a major player on the North & South American continents.

The only worn out tractor made before 1965 is the one that hasn't had the correct TLC done to it. Your fords can be and will be around till you die and then even if taken care of last till you sons or daughters die. The one made now days will only last till they are about 5-10 years old and thats if your lucky. Just stick with your fords and do the TLC they need and you will be $$ ahead

Not to quibble but I think the Mahindra's are made in India. The other two are Jin Ma made in China.
All tractors in that size range are made off shore it seems nowadays. The best are probably Japanese with the Koreans not far behind then a big step down to the Mahindras and Jin Mas. The "chinese tractor" site has a lot of info on the Jin Ma especially how to make it right after you get one!

You better do some checking before you start spouting that Farmtrac is Chinese junk. It just shows your ignorance.

I bought a Farmtrac DT360 2 years ago and am very pleased with it. Like any tractor, if you do your maintenance it will take care of you.

Thanks for the replys. I have been able to find out that they are made in India in the same plant that ford had theirs made in up to about 1996. Escorts diesel makes the engine in the larger ones. They have real good financing and waranty. Kinda hard to pass up. I remember when Kubota started selling tractors in the US. Everybody thought they were junt too. I think that I'm going to take a chance.

See if you can demo one before you make a commitment. That way if it ends up you don't like it, you can return it and still hang on to your fords.

What type of relation ship do you have with the owner of the dealership? I can call the owner of my local dealership and ask him to deliver anything on his lot to my house and I will be in some time next month to pay for it. When I get home this afternoon it would be in the yard.

If you know the dealer that well, where he trusts you as much as you trust him then it would be worth taking the chance. I know this type of relationship is hard to find today. You will know in a year or less if you made a mistake or not.

My local dealership carries the FarmTrac also, but he sells a lot more Kubota's, which you are correct about when the first showed up, than FarmTrac, LongTrac or the Long tractors. I have seen FarmTrac's come back, but I am starting to see more and more around the county.

15 years ago I bought a new Long 2360 from him. During the first year it was back for warranty work 3 times, all 3 times for the fuel gauge. This tractor had a sorry electrical system on it, but over the years I have reworked thing. As for the tractor itself, it has over 3000 hard hours on it and the electrical system is the only thing I have had problems out of. I bought it because of the price and I have not been sorry.

I have a friend who has a Farmtrac and he has gotten very good service from it. I have known people that have gotten much worse service out of Massey Fergusons than he has. Also have a friend that has one of the older Long tractors and it has given him good service too. If you have a good dealer that is stable and will be there for the long term I wouldn't be afraid of the Farmtrac.
