Dad brought home a Massey 550 with an extremely weatherchecked rear tire and no brakes about 45 miles. Hung a corn head on the front to take a load off the back tire, and dragged the head on the ground with the clutch down to stop. This was back in August.

My dads uncle moved his ranch from Broken Bow Ne to Riffle Colorado. Broken Bow is Northeast of North Plate Ne and Riffle is west of Denver over the divide. Any way he had an A JD and an M Farmall. If I remember right he sold the A and drove the M!

First combine was a Model K Gleaner- cousin and I bought it in 1976 - drove it 140 miles in one day. Had the two row CH in my pickup, and the bean head on the combine.

Way before I came along, my uncle bought a combine out in Indiana I think. He farmed in central Illinois. Hooked his pick-up to the back of the combine and drove as much as he could for the day. Parked the combine, drove home and slept. Next day went back to the combine, hooked the truck behind it and so on and so fourth. I don't know how long it took him, but I NEVER get tired of hearing that story : )

A few years ago a fellow farmer from western Canada drove his combine across the country in protest against the government. He drove it to Ottawa for the demonstration at Parliement Hill. Sorry not sure of all the details, but it had to be 3,000 Kms aleast. I think it was a MF combine.

I had a hitch put on the passenger side rear of a truck and pulled an AC 72 combine 120 miles last year. Had it on a divided 4 lane for very short distance, up to 40 mph which is too fast, dont kmow if Im good or lucky, probably lucky.

There are some big farmers around here that lease a lot of land all over Illinois and parts of Indiana. Been told, they trailer nothing, they drive tractors, combines, sprayers, everythign from farm to farm, will wear a set of tires a year on their equipment. I would bet they put 5-600 miles a year on the road on each of them.

5-600 miles? I drive my loader tractor that far doing chores every day. And it don't wear the tires out. It takes a lot more miles than that.

Four combines were driven A little over 800 miles from Omaha Lexion plant to SW Oklahoma. The combine trailers weren't ready to go yet but the wheat was, so down the road they went. Took three days and surprisingly there was almost no visible tire wear. From there they were driven north to central Kansas. By then the trailers were modified and ready to use so they were hauled on trailers for the rest of the summer. As I understand, this was more common fifty years ago on the wheat harvest. Jim

I opened my big mouth at a auction a few years ago just to start bidding on a old IH 101 combine and ended up with it. I drove it home about 60 miles. It didn't go over 7 or 8 miles per hour it got dark on me and I had to leave it in aparking lot in a small town over night and come back the next day.

Feller drove his combine into the yard one evening. Wanted to know if we could put him up for the night. Dad had Mom fix supper for him and we put him up on the couch. By 4:30 the next morning he was gone. He was driving a MH 80 to SD.
