ot 383 stroker what to do

ok i got a gm 383 stroker coupled to a 4 spd with granny gear and transfer case. engine, tranny and clutch are brand new with 2,311 miles on them i was contemplating what to do with them my neighbors got a k-20 that needs a new engine its got an easy dumper on it should i put myself together a nice pickup or should i build something like a rat rod with my 94 s-10 or 53 3100 or look for something cooler?

Get rid of the junk stuff: hotrod trucks and crap. Finish college and spend your money on things that matter. Why waste it on dead end hobbies.

Back when I was 17 years old I probably would have put the motor and trans in some big truck with too big of tires and too small of a radiator and too low of gas mileage and not that much reliability. After spending about $10,000 dollars and 10,000 hours working on it and having my parents tell me I told you so, I would put the whole contraption in the auto swapper for about $1500 or best offer. Now at the age of 42 I would just put the engine and trans in the auto swapper just like it is for $1500 or best offer and save myself about $8500 dollars and 10,000 hours of my time!

if were me, i'd go for the k-20 and do it all up nice with a lift kit and 35 inch tires. or you could through the motor in an already lifted k-20 and make a nice wheelin' rig

yea its a 4x4 i drove that truck before it went its got some play in the steering but my front axle out of the k-30 dumper should fit i may put the one ton springs on it with the dually rear end and some big tires like this truck

Do a little more research on the 1 ton to 3/4 ton front end swap . It's not a direct bolt in . The spring pad spacing on the 1 tons are different than 3/4 tons as are the shock mounts . Then you have the u-joint differences for the front driveshaft and the steering may or may not bolt right in . It is definetly do-able just know what it's going to take before you turn the first wrench . The overall spring length eye to eye should be checked also . Basically you can bolt anything and everything from a 3/4 ton and a 1/2 ton together as bolt on parts but the 1 tons pretty much stand alone in the suspension department without a bunch of fabricating . Also keep in mind that if you want to put large tires on a dually you'll need a spacer to keep the tires from rubbing together which will need longer studs . Just keep in mind I'm talking about the pre metric chevy's from '73 thru about '85 or '86 because those are the ones I've modified for deep water running . You'll gain a world of fabricating experience . Just DO NOT I repeat - DO NOT!! - put lift blocks in the front suspension for any reason ! I can't stress this stongly enough . It's hard to steer or stop without a front axle attached to the undercarrage . BTST ( been there - seen that ) . It happened to a buddies truck going down a short but steep hill in the dirt . Busted the u-bolts . He only had 1" blocks in front but they stressed the bolts to much with the braking torque and 44" tires . But if you use some common sense all things are possible with these old trucks . Do it and have fun ! ...Randy
