The D-17 is rated at 54 hp. It is larger than the D-10, D-12, and the D-14. It has 8 speeds (4 speed with high and low range). It is or was Allis Chalmers most popular tractor in the early 1960"s. I have a D-17 and it"s been the best tractor I"ve had for baling hay. With live PTO and high/low shifting on the go -I love it! I"m also fond of my Farmall Super-C for plowing snow. -Then there are my Minnie-Molines, they just keep pulling!

D14 is also smaller, lighter, and uses 26 inch rear rubber instead of 28 inch.

D14 came out in '57, touted as almost the same hp as a WD45, but smaller wheels- THAT was DUMB!. Lighter weight than the 4400 lb WD45. D17 came out later, 53+ hp- so if another said 17 under for the D14- very likely in the ballpark. That would be 36, WD45 was about 40+. Most features were the same on the two tractors- live pto and hyd via Power Director hand clutch. Eight speeds forward, two reverse. But going to smaller rear tires was a massive step backward for AC!. ie- stupid!. Smaller diameter rear wheels simply have less traction. Only saving grace that AC had in those years was that they went to wider tires than the competition, to gain traction. All others had 34-38 inch diameter tires. More lugs on the ground, more leverage.
