Ready to join the axle housings to the center section on a 1954 NAA after replacing all the bearings and new lower link pins. Does anyone have what they believe to be a bullet-proof way to seal the two together with new gaskets. i.e. Permatex High Tack, or ???. The other problem I have is with the gaskets. They are off-size on the dia. and bolt hole pattern. In order to have them go on, it will be necessary to cut the gasket at the top. Has anyone ran into this problem before? Any experience and/or suggestions from the field with those familiar with this would be appreciated. I am totally new to tractors. Thanks.

I don't believe in using liquid gasket of any kind except when surface is damaged to the point that it has to be used for temporary repair untill cases can be repaired or replaced to do job right. If you clean surface properly & use a new gasket you shouldn't have trouble with leaks . On the job "Before retirement" for 30 years I worked on gear boxes and I found that Using the gasket that gearbox was designed for give a lot better service than liquid gasket material I always looked at it as a temporary fix or quick fix most pros don't use it .

Soak the gaskets in water overnight. I am a big fan of 'High Tack' in this application and Anaerobic gasket eliminators for pressure applications. I do not use RTV or other silicones except in very rare instances. Clean surfaces to a shine.

Pete..... ...NO PUCKY yer gaskets. They're paper and just need a "swipe" of HOT-WATER to relax the paper fibers and they'll fit just fine with NO leaks or tearing..... ...Dell
