Has anyone ever tried to put 20.8 38 tires on a 14 38 rim? Would it work?

I understand that it doesn't work as well as it should, but by what percentage less contact would I have on the ground? Also how much more difficult is it to put them on?

Yes it can be done but will they sit right, NO. Will the tread sit on the ground as it should? NO. Will the tires last a long time?? No because of undue side wall wear. So your better off with 15.5s not the 20s unless you buy 18 or 19 inch wide rims

Old adage is to go one inch wider or narrower than the rim width. Beyond that, it looks funny, doesn't fit the ground properly, and is a bugger to work with.

But it will be a bear to get tube in and seat on rim. Put 15.5x38 on my JD 70 that had 12x38 originally. Bead wants to climb onto seat and then you have a hard time getting other side on. Had to cut small 4x2's to stick between tire and rim to get other side mounted and then it didn't want to seat very bad. Broke it down and lubed it up 6 or 7 times and still wouldn't seat. put about 35 or 40 psi in it and left it with the tractor weight setting on it and a couple days later it finally poped into place. Just hope you never have to take it off, as my Grandad used to say, it'll make a preacher cuss. Chris
