new fangled tire chain adjusters - do they work?

Have to make a trip to the far north and ordered a set of tire chains for the Suburban - first set I've had in 20 years.
These are standard tire chains, but they have some slack adjusters in the sides like a half-moon cam. Turning it 180 degrees with a L shaped lever included with the chains takes up a lot of slack. Problem is, they don't look to me like they would stay, even with using some rubber straps to take up additional slack. Here is a link to a picture showing what I am talking about:

Has anyone used this things? Do they work? I'm going to take some heavy wire to lock them in place in case I have to use the chains.

Ran 'em on big trucks for over 20 years and never had one that was cinched up right fail. Get 'em tight and then hang a couple of bungees on each chain or run 'em a ways and re-adjust.

I have been using the cam adjusters for about 6 years. I use the chains while plowing snow and have never had a problem with them. You can pull the chains right up TIGHT with them, and it pulls the slack in three or four places, depending on how many cams you have, instead of trying to pull the slack all the way around the tire. If you are nervous, by all means wire them, or use spring tighteners.

i use rubber straps to pull them down on the outside of the wheel. If they're MADE for whatever size, then they'll be ok.

I've been using them for years on my plow trucks. Two of my trucks have chains on all four wheels. But - I've never completely trusted the adjusters - and have them all wired - just for a little insurance. I lost a chain last year in the snow and never found it. After that, I tie all my chain-fasteners and tighteners with wire.
