Some people get carried away in which is better. I like ALL tractors, each has their own pluses and bad parts. From a repair shop standpoint, john Deere always has the best re-sale but bit more complicated than others to work on. International has been tried and true, not a great re-sale and the hydros, and T/A's could have been better. Fords are good but not so well on the select-o-speed. I prefer the red brand just because in the 1940's they had a good system down and i use it today. So I guess I dont uderstand what the deal is or why people get carried away or act poorly over it. Can you please explain It?

I personaly love the Deeres, but I wouldn't pass up any "unstyled" tractor. I would find a place in my barn for a Farmall Regular/F12, Case L, early Fordson, Rumley 6, or any unconventional tractor. In my opinion, there is a certain age where the color of the tractor really doesn't matter. I would plow circles around an IH 806 with my JD 4010, but I have no problems parking a Farmall F12 next to my 1936 John Deere B.

I find it objectionable and a sign of no maturity when someone beats down product they dont like. I may view the world a little different then most, I look at a big job that has to be done and figure a powered machine sure beats doing it by hand.Since I have not seen the wheel redesigned a tractor of equal pto horsepower and basic design will still hook up to a disc, has and engine and transmission,a place to plant the lazymaker and so on. I know there are benefits in each brand as well as negative aspects of every machine, come on, they were designed by a man so no matter what model you own I am positive there is at least one item that you would change or improve as a feature. Unless we want to perpetuate the silly notion of " ALWAYS RIGHT".My uncle who row crops over 2500 acres has had the same field tractors for over thirty years, new combine this year but everything else is the same. Working for a big equipment dealer I was trying to change out some of his older equipment and pumping the modern features and how it would make his life easier. His comment was when these machines no longer are able to work, I will consider it. The only reason I post is to give somewhat of a reality check. The comments on this site have declined so much over the past year, we need a change.Friendly banter is one thing but some have gotten down right hostile over the color of paint.I am sure this will most likely generate a rant in someone, but for the bulk of you that come here I got a feeling you are looking for a source of information, and if you were so very brand loyal you would not be on this site anyway as it supports the brands of tractors you may not like.

I grew up on Fordson majors and 20 series deeres but My yard has both shades of red some green and a lot of blue , Eventually the green will be chased out by more blue.

Doesn"t make a lot of difference. I grew up on Allis & Deere, but the family also had Oliver & IH. As kids we were happy to drive whatever there was, driving was better than loading or working in the mow. As I recall they were all pretty good, simple machines that were reliable & easy to fix. Not like some of the modern stuff.

I grew up runnin' Farmalls mostly, and they were just great tractors...except for the F-12 I ran....that was the most under powered angry handling little clunker I ever set my butt on. Now I've got 3 restored two cylinder John Deeres and they, especially the G models, are sure fun to play around with and tinker on. They have real "character" all their own. They are pretty thirsty if you work 'em very hard. I've got an old '47 Moline UTU and that thing is fun too...and thirsty. Sure, I've got an H Farmall and an M Farmall, they are the nice "civilized" tractors they always were....almost boring though, they just do the job....and that's it.

I am a die hard farmall fan, but I grew up on them and there fairly easy to keep going, however I like all the old jewels. I have spent many hours on John Deeres and the only fault I ever seen was fuel consumption seemed to be high. I have also worked a few of the older Allis Chalmers and Oliver they seemed fine to me. I did work for a guy when I was younger that had all Massey the 135 and 35 he had were as good as any I ever drove, he also had two 285s and niether of them were any good from the start, he had a big V8 massey that gave him fits. I think tractors are like cars and trucks there will be good and bad in all kinds. I still bleed Farmall red.I do pick at some of my JD buddies all in good fun. One good buddy of mine gave me a small magnetic sign that says friends dont let friends drive red tractors I keep it on my red 666 all the time.

I am right between Winchester and Mt Sterling on the county line. The man I was talking about got rid of all those Massy's except one the 135. In 1983 he traded all those Massey's in on 2240,2640,2940 and a 4440 JDs.He also has 3 or 4 Super Cs and 200 Farmalls to plow tobacco with and now he even has a blue tractor.

It's like chainsaws, brand loyalists love to tease, that's ok, but it's just a tractor or whatever, used to be meant for a purpose, now collectible and for show too.

All the big agricultural guys around here used green, but theres a guy on the next road over who has Allens favorite color exclusively and still in it with a few head of cattle.

My favorites are the smaller but still powerful utility size like the Ford industrials and the like, liked the 301 JD and that 820 3 cyl, and others along that line, they're all fun so best not to forget to enjoy em !

I think a lot of it is based on what someone grew up on. Well i know its that way with me anyway, i grew up on allis chalmers, and i guess you could say i still am growin up on them so that makes me a little more partial to them. But i really like about everything, i think that all the companys had about 1 major problem with them no matter where you go. Yes even those john deeres.

Good post. I've never seen an old tractor I didn't like. I have some JD's. some Farmalls, a couple of Ford N's, an Allis and a Minnie-Mo. I like them all but the Farmalls own my heart because I grew up on a Faramll M. I think the issue that most influences folks has to do with what is referred to as "the formative years."

Grew up with Ih's at my grandfathers farm and my neighbors farm, ( who always kept em waxed or freshly painted, and always washed up). Other neighbors were all Jon Deere two cylinders till the traded a 730D for a 4020 in the mid 80's. The memories of watching them plowing, raking, baling, harvesting and the such as child will be with me forever, the fascination of running them as a preteen, and even today, is something I will never outgrow. So in my book and in my heritage it's IH all the way, with Johnny poppers in 2nd. That was all I knew till I was 15 and worked for a family that had, of all things Oliver 1850's, 1950's, 2150's with MFWD, which quickliy became a few of my favorites yet to this day. I learned to drive on a super H and a John Deere B.

I'm a closet John Deere lover from way back. Even back to the unstyled As.

Thought they really had foresight when they built that old 2-pop sound into the 4020 hydraulic pump. Thunka-thunka-chirp, thunka-thunka-chirp. :>)

Naw, I like 'em all. Color doesn't bother me one little bit. Just iron with different shade of tone, is all.

had one at one time when used the neighbors put silage up. Along side of it was our Olivers at that time. i don't get this Vision thing sorry. IT drank more fuel other than that was juat another tractor to me. Most tractor sales now last few years have been Blue. Just another phase I suppose,oh well as long as we keep selling something is all I care. As far as vehicles when you run mail route 6 days week all the time no matter the weather that wil tell you which vehicle does seem to take it the long haul. So far the Dodge stuff has did the best, have always averaged at least 320,000 so far. (4) Have chevy currently been lots of problems with it starting at around 80,000. Pushing 170,000 now and have been into the major stuff already. If I can find a Dodge I can put two steering wheels in again wil be back to those I am sure thinking. Did you get rid of the old Farmhand loader yet have guy interested maybe. What you want for it. I think He said his tractor was 560IH

i have a red tractor, my buddy has green. we tease each other all the time about it but i like his green tractor and he's the one that found me my red tractor!

the "few" that take it seriously i think have other larger issues that should be taken care of. i'm with you. i love tractors...all tractors. 'specially old tactors. (as long as they're red) 80) jk

Hi;
I grew up around Fordson Super Majors so they are my alltime favourite. Then worked with Ford 1000 Series after college in practical farming.
When I was at agricultural engineering college in late 1960's had to do a project on "best or most suitable" make & model to do specific jobs. I had to admit that certain models from other colours were better than the make I "loved".
As an Area Sales Manager for implement manufactuers & importers, had to demonstrate on all makes of tractors (whatever the farmer owned) again certain brands & models were better than others for specific jobs.
Hard to tell a farmer that his tractor aint suitable or man enough to handle my implement !!!
So when I win the lotto and buy a farm, the tractor shed will contain a mish-mash of colours.
Cheers David

I can't afford to get involved with brand wars. Its easier to be color blind. If the machine works for the application then all the better. I have Green (don't get me started on which shade is better or worse), blue, red, orange and a yellow. I have driven and owned Dodge, Chevy, Buick, Pontiac, Ford, Mercury, Jeep, and even a Toyota. They all have good and bad aspects. If there was one that excelled in all the areas the rest would be out of business. The only problem I have is remembering all those filters and where the parts houses are. Thank goodness for spreadsheets.
