What is a good pump to use for transfering oil from a barrell to a bulk oil tank? I was thinking of riging something up on a two wheeled sart with a 1/2 hp electris motor but am not sure what kind of pump to use. Does anyone have something that works for them that they would like to share?

Thanks

YOU COULD RIG UP A DETROIT DIESEL 318 STYLE FUEL PUMP AND COUPLE IT TO AN ELECTRIC MOTOR.IT WORKS BEST ON WARM OIL.

Speaking of Cenex guys, our local Cenex uses a 2HP motor direct-coupled to a brass gear pump to transfer USED oil. No reason you couldn't do the same with bulk oil. A good used hydraulic pump should work, too.

Also, there is an oufit on ebay selling oil transfer pumps that appear to use a Chevy small-block oil pump driven by an electric motor.

Do you haveair available. I have worked at places where we put a pipe that ranto the bottom of the barrel in a bung-adapter, had a valve on it to control flow, and had a tire valve or air fitting with a falve in the small hole of the drum. Don,t use too much air but will transfer the oil real good.Too much pressure will bulge the top and bottom of the drum though.

I have tried that approach, but it was slow due to the cold weather. I live in NE South Dakota. I was hoping to be able to move the oil alittle faster. maybe it wouldn"t work anybetter due to the temp., thickness of the oil ect. Thanks for the idea though.
