Case mag? Make sure the dot on steel gear by cam for points aligns with the beveled teeth on dist. rotor gear or it won't time right. Beveled teeth on fibre gear must be towards the rotor disc or gear is on backwards and will throw it off also. Other mag? Post back with brand and model#. Recheck timing again.

Not 2 ways--4 ways, There is a two to one gear driving the distributor. Could be a full turn off.

What Old is saying is:
1) Check firing order, 2) check rotation direction of mag distrbutor, 3) find #1 cylinder top dead centre on compression stroke and 4) connect plug leads in their correct order. Then it will likely run.

Switch the wires 180 out and it wil most likely run.
