I have a 1010 without a serial plate on it.Is there any way of tracing the serial number through the engine number.

If the serial # plate is missing from the engine, there are other ways to narrow the tractor down to a certain serial ranges - since there were many updates/changes to the 1010. Is if ag, ind., wheeled, or tracked?

Yeah, but at this point - I don't even know if you have a wheel tractor or crawler - or a gas engine or a diesel. A few basic facts will help here.

1010s went through several engine parts changes at serial number changes, e.g. # 31,000, piston changes at #42,000, oil pump changes at #26,691, air cleaner at #31,000 and 42,000, muffler at #41,000, throttle linkage at #31,000, gas governors at #16,754, #21,847, etc., radiator #21,900, transmission #21,900, water pump #21,900, diesel primer #42,000, gas fuel parts #15,783, diesel parts #17,360, #31,000, #42,000, etc. etc. I could list parts that changed at certain serial number breaks all day long.

If you are referring to the serial number plate on the engine's RH side, that IS the tractor serial #.

Unless it had a transplant for a combine ? then that plate on the engine won't match up to a tractor number.
