Interesting that you worked on the hourmeter. I have a MF 245, that stuck on 917 hours a few years ago. I got a quote of something like 200 dollars to fix it. I have been thinking of trying to fix it myself. Tach works, but hours are stuck.

if you had a 1983 chevy truck and rebuilt the engine in it, would you rewind the miles?

Didn't think so.

Actully I disagree with reseting after an engine overhaul, That does nothing for the transmission and the rest of the tractor. I would save resting for a complete restore. If you plan on keeping the tractor than sky is the limit.

Yes, it would be wrong to reset it. It'd be just like resetting a car's odometer. I say better just put it all back together and keep it original.

typicaly the hour meter is meant to keep track of elapsed engine revolutions for oil and PM and when you go to sell it, an estimate on the wear the engine received.

Resetting it now would assist you in keeping track of hours elapsed since the hour meter was last repaired.

It would be fair to reset it when you did a complete engine o'haul.
