Hi Gang;
this steeply sloping field used to be farmed many years ago. If you look carefull on the edges of the field you can see a raised earth bank defining the edges. It was built of soil & rocks taken from field. To-day is neglected and covered in bracken.
Cheers David

That looks like some of the country that they farm here in the Palouse. At least we don't have any that slopes down to the water live that.

David,

Was that farmed with more modern equipment, or only with horses? On this farm we have about a 1/2 mile of water frontage with a slope like that, and steeper... we just don't have quite as high a cliff at the bottom. Mabey 15 feet in most places. Here, at least, farming on that hill ceased with the arrival of tractors. It's just rough pasture land now, and staying that way....
BTW, keep the pics coming. Love seeing the other side of the pond.

Rod

I have a friend that I believe would roll hay on that hillside. He will roll it where I won't even cut it with the sickle cutter.
That wall is to catch produce that get loose up the slope. Makes harvesting melons in East KY easy.

I get woozy just looking at a picture of it.
In this country that view would be spoiled by the handrail and warning signs.

David, that's a beautiful view. What type of crops would have been raised on such a steep slope? And you'll have to excuse my ignorance of the term "bracken". Please explain.
