I figure you guys would know this. I have a 1992 Lincoln Continental sitting on the side of the driveway. Fella said he wanted it and I said he could have it but he has yet to pick it up. He offered me $1,000 for it. I did not license it this year because it was "sold" and now the local ordinance officer is after me to have it hauled off. Trying to decide what to do with it.
How much is it worth scrap these days. Any idea?

Hi Rick! Car is in pretty decent condition but the serpentine belt busted last summer when I moved it and the battery has since, of course, gone dead. Dash electronics are questionable as there was a fair amount of erratic gauge activity with beeping etc. Still it ran good until the belt busted. Air suspension replaced all the way around with less than 40K miles on those. Tranny worked fine but it comes as a package with the rest of the car. E-mail is open. I have ten days and then it goes to the kidney foundation where I hope it can do some good. It was my favorite car ever but I cannot keep it up.

Appreciate all the replies! I think the parts car route is how I should go. Also got written up for a trailer which is parked on the south side of the driveway and a McCormick type B feed grinder that I dropped off at the top of the drive and was moving into the garage for repairs.
No mention of the TD-6 TracTractor parked next to my pickup. Apparently he liked that one. Feed grinder has to go. Car has to go. Trailer can stay but has to be on the NORTH side of the drive.
Don't like to park it there because the neighbor vandalizes it on that side (out of the light). Seems like people makin trouble out of nothin.
Thanks for the replies!

Are you going to sell the feed grinder, or just move it out of sight?

Here in New York - $50 a ton for an uncrushed car or truck. But, I spoke to a scrap dealer in Texas and he's paying $140 a ton. That's a huge difference - and I have no idea why.

They're not paying $140 a ton for cars in my part of TX. More Like $50 a ton. Short iron is not even bringing $140 right now.

I didn't believe it a first - so I asked the guy to give me some phone #s of scrapyards your way. I called them - and they DID quote me that high price. I have no idea exactly who or where I was calling - but I think it was around Houston, Texas the two place's numbers are - 713-880-7000 and 703-779-9960

Last month I got $80 a ton. That was at middleport (near Buffalo). All I have to do is take the tires with me. No prep needed.

I'm wondering if Buffalo is higher than here? Maybe, since we only have one scrap buyer around, we're getting screwed? I'm in Otsego County by Coopertown. But, even with $50 here, and $80 by you - how come places out west are paying $140 and up?

Uncrushed? As in just dragged in off the road? Legal prep for crusher means no AC freon, no gas tank, no rubber tires, no battery- this takes some time and labor. Cleaned scrap bodies means minimal interior plastic, cloth- used to be burned out. Different grades of scrap, different prices. RN.

I have only one scrap buyer withing 30 miles of me (central New York). His price at $50 a ton is for the car/truck with tires off - he strips the rest. I checked around trying to find out what the U.S. average for scrap is - and found that it is posted on a daily basis. The commodities market on scrap uses specific classes for automtoive scrap. The lowest valued being "uncrushed" - with tires, fuels, and refrigerant removed. That is what I was referring to. Next step up in value is "crushed", and higher yet is "green crushed." The latter has fabric, oil, and plastics removed.

They are scrap value only if not running. The salvage value is next to nothing since the 3.8 is not in demand by anyone and nobody in their right mind would install that old of a transmission (especially that one) when getting them rebuilt is not that expensive (when already pulled).

Around here cars bring $60-$70 a ton, that thing weighs about 3500 pounds so about $105 less pickup fee.

Sold a 1992 complete Lincoln on e-Bay about 2-3 months ago for a parts car and got 400.00 for it. You might try that. Put a note in the auction site that it is for sale locally and youcan pull it from the auction if it sells at home and you won't make anybody mad.

I would trhow an ad in a local paper and ask say $500-1000 for it and see if you could sell it that way. Also put a for sale sign in the window of it to sort of slow down the cops, most of the time if they see that they know your tring to get it out of there. Scrap for it would be at most $200 if not a lot less
